Historical Background

The origin of Sukhothai region of north central Thailand
is uncertain. Some believed that Thai culture originated
in the history of Indo-China peninsula.
It came into being as the result of migration which,
initially led to the establishment of small cities in
an area already sparsely populated by Lawa, Mon and
other tribes.

Trading Route
High-fired glazed stonewares were produced at both
Sukhothai and Sri Satchanalai under the cultural direction
of Sukhothai kingdom.
Both cities produced export wares in 14th -16th century
to Java, Sumatra, Philippines and Japan, and also
trading with China, Burma, Persia and Sri Lanka.

the fire which were blown through the kiln by the
draught landing on the surface of the dish, on the
interior and wood ash on the exterior.
